Alsager Town 0-1 Wolverhanpton Casuals
Alsager Town have made a reasonable start to 2026, but Saturday afternoon’s test proved too much to handle.
First half
Wolverhampton had a shot on target in the opening minute of the game, but Alsager started to grow in the game, with Luke Nicholls central to any attacking moves.
The captain aimed a powerful effort on goal which failed to hit the target, but he almost had an assist a few minutes later. Nicholls enticed the opposition goalkeeper away from his net and squared the ball inside from the right wing, but a Wolverhampton defender was on scene to make an important clearance.
The visitors had the next chance when Lee Chilton brought the ball down, moved it inside and curled an effort into the bottom left corner, forcing a brilliant save from Dominic James.
Later it seemed an Alsager defender used his hand to control the ball in his own box, but presumably the referee deemed it to be in a natural position.
It did not take long for Wolverhampton to get another attack going, but Nathan Scott skied a shot over the bar when he was one-on-one with James. However, they did get their opening goal with a close range finish from a corner kick.

Second half
The Bullets regained control of the game after the break and were frequently getting the ball in the box, but creating clear-cut chances proved difficult.
Things were about to get worse, as Callum Bond was on the wrong end of a strong tackle which flipped him over completely, causing the player to land on his head.
It was later confirmed by a physio that he suffered a neck injury and an ambulance arrived outside Wood Park after the full-time whistle. Our thoughts are with him after this unfortunate incident.
James was forced into a couple of decent saves as the game went on and Wolverhampton also took some shots which failed to hit the target.
Alsager were the team pushing for a goal towards the end, but it never looked like happening and the match ended in defeat.
