Alsager residents fume at Lawton Road repairs

Lawton Road was recently closed to allow micro surfacing works to take place, but residents are furious with the results.

Councillors Reg Kain and Rod Fletcher recently secured funds for major resurfacing works on Lawton Road. However, the work carried out a few days ago was only for micro resurfacing, much to the dismay of local residents.

Cllr Rod Kain today posted on Facebook: “At last repairs to the roads in Alsager. Pity they couldn’t do it all, but small victories where we can get them for the people of Alsager.”

Not many share the Reform councillor’s optimism, as a number of residents took to the comment section to share their thoughts on the repairs.

One resident said: “That’s not a repair, that’s an insult and shouldn’t be praised or celebrated.”

Another said: “Look at the state of it. Can see round the edges it’s gonna lift and break away within a week.”

A third added: “Small victory, Cllr Ronald Kain? Less than a splash of paint in some places. Ridiculous waste of money and valuable resources.”

Others pointed out that the section where the road surface was at its worst had been neglected, despite it being most in need of repairs.

One commenter said: “The part of the road they did resurface was a perfectly fine stretch of road… the part they “missed out” is probably the worst in Alsager.

“The ASDA crossing bit is the most uneven damaging part to any vehicle on the road.”

Another added: “So they’re not actually doing the worst part? The centre of the village by Asda that’s like driving on the moon?!

“But it’s right next to the stretch of new road that’s gone down that was already in way better condition that the centre bit.”

It is currently unknown when the area of Lawton Road by the Asda lights will be resurfaced.
