Parking at an Alsager supermarket will now be free for up to two hours after an agreement was made with Cheshire East Council.
Charges at the short stay car park at Fairview were scrapped after months of discussions between Asda and Cheshire East.
Asda Deputy Manager Rob Capon said: “Asda has been in consultation with Cheshire East Council for several months in reference to Fairview car park. I am happy to announce that from Monday 30th June, the short stay car park will be free parking for two hours.
“The very top of the car park [long stay], near to the library will stay as pay and display. This will be enforced by Cheshire East Council.
“The rest of the car park and also the small car park, opposite Domino’s and Vets 4 Pets, will be two hours free parking for everyone. There will be ANPR cameras installed soon, to monitor the two hour parking limitation.
“Asda has negotiated this to benefit not just their own customers but also the small businesses, which have been hugely affected since the parking charges were brought in.”
The news has been welcomed by Alsager residents and local business owners alike. Flower Passion posted: “What absolutely fantastic news Asda, hopefully it will start to bring people back into the town centre. Thank you Asda it is greatly appreciated.”
The Dog’s Dinner posted: “Thanks this really helps us and it is much appreciated.”
Alsager Indoor Market seller Handcrafted by Julie also posted: “Fantastic news, thank you so much.”
The entire car park remains free to use after 3pm.
