Margaret Wakelin is standing in tomorrow’s Alsager Town election for the Labour Party and her campaign has five key points.
Margaret Wakelin has called Alsager home for more than 40 years and was a founding member of the Alsager Residents Action Group. She is now hoping to use her experience of community action and dealing with local issues to be elected as an Alsager Town councillor.
Her fives pledges are to:
- Champion the town centre and work with local businesses
- Make Alsager greener and improve its open spaces
- Work on youth engagement
- Work to improve access to local services
- Listen, support and bring the community together
Wakelin said: “Our town is a fantastic place to live but we face many challenges. Alsager, along with many areas, has suffered as a result of years of cuts and a lack of funding. This can be seen in our roads, our
services and in our open spaces.
“We also have local challenges with speeding, parking, our town centre and our local environment. To take on these challenges we need strong representation on our Town Council, a pro-active approach and community action.
“Many responsibilities reside with Cheshire East Council and our Town Council is only a local council, but it has the ability to advocate for our town to Cheshire East, run good localised services and support our community.
“I want to become your local councillor so that I can contribute to our community and to be a voice for local people like you on our Town Council.”
Wakelin will be joined on the ballot paper by Philip Williams (Liberal Democrats), Wendy Whittaker-Large (Reform) and Charlotte Laura Harding (Green).
