Matty Russell’s short time in charge of Alsager Town has come to an end after a 3-2 defeat to Winsford United saw the Bullets finish in the bottom half of the NWCFL First Division South.
Alsager struggled during Russell’s managerial tenure, as he obtained a humble 12.5 per cent win record, losing 11 of the 16 matches he was in charge for.
However, Russell stepped in at a difficult period in the season. The departure of Luke Goddard and Lee Duckworth saw most of the club’s squad move elsewhere. This caused the former Prestwich Heys boss to have to start from scratch whilst the season was ongoing.

Despite the trying circumstances he faced, Russell stepped up and led Alsager as a player-manager. He spent most of his time as head coach in the dugout, although he did give himself a rare start in the Bullets’ final game of the season last Saturday.
Alsager Town will now be on the hunt for another new manager before their pre-season preparations get underway in July.
