An Alsager runner will be taking part in the Brighton marathon this weekend to help fight in the battle against cancer.
Aneurin Drew Jones will be running his first marathon on Sunday, April 6, to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
The charity is close to his heart, as his friend Daniel Godley was diagnosed with the disease when he was 28 years old.
Aneurin said: “This was a huge shock for everyone, especially for someone as fit and healthy as Dan. Just before his diagnosis he’d been running marathons, ultra marathons and halves, including Brighton Marathon.
“In the subsequent year, Dan had to go through numerous stages of chemotherapy with no real grasp on whether it would help reduce the size of the tumour.
Since then, doctors were able to remove Dan’s tumour and the entire pancreas and he has since been cancer free.

“We’re so proud of how far he’s come along,” Aneurin continued.
“We know it’s a continuous battle for him, but he’s beaten every hurdle that’s come in his way. He’s here and most importantly, he’s now back to enjoying life.
“Unfortunately, I know the majority of stories don’t end as positively as Dan’s, and without raising more awareness and funding for research, we can’t make a real change.
“I will give it my everything during the marathon, and hope you’ll donate and support me along the way.
“My hope is that in the future, Pancreatic cancer will be diagnosed much easier, earlier and better treatment can lead to a higher survival rate.
“I’d love it if you can donate to the cause!”
Currently, 57 people have donated to the fundraiser, which can be accessed by clicking here. £1125 has been raised so far, just a few hundred shy of the Aneurin’s target of £1500.
