Alsager News would like to address comments made on Facebook accusing the site of political bias.
From its beginnings, Alsager News has been an independent source of news for the local community. Despite a lack of financial incentive, work has been put in to provide residents with information about things going on in the town.
Alsager News is proud to have spotlighted activities and events which are rarely covered by mainstream news outlets, such as regularly reporting on Alsager Town FC. This principle has been key to its articles on the local election.
Two articles on the election were published yesterday which aimed to inform voters on the beliefs and policies of Andy Large and June Buckley. A third article would have been written, focusing on the campaign of Brian Lomas, but unfortunately no contact details could be identified for the independent candidate.
Voter turnout is often low at local elections, sometimes because residents do not see the parish council as important, but also because there is not always readily accessible information on the candidates standing.
Alsager News believes in the importance of local democracy, so it has made every effort to inform potential voters so they have the necessary knowledge to cast their vote.
By publishing an article on each candidate, covering their policies and motivations for standing, Alsager News remains impartial and balanced. The goal is to provide a platform for those seeking to be elected and to provide voters with as much information as possible on who and what they are voting for.
Alsager News fundamentally rejects any claims of bias or impartiality and asks that readers consider the full context of the articles published.
Further to this point, there has been much anger since the articles were published which has been directed at the candidates and in some cases, at Alsager News. Please remember to be respectful and to only engage with constructive discourse.
