June Buckley has been elected to Alsager Town Council after winning the east ward by-election.
The Liberal Democrats candidate defeated Andy Large of Reform by 34 votes. The number of votes for each candidate were as follows:
- June Buckley (Liberal Democrats) 317
- Andy Large (Reform) 283
- Brian Lomas (Independent) 86
Two ballot papers were rejected.
Buckley previously spent four years on Alsager Town Council and Cheshire East Council and is therefore already experienced in the role.
Liberal Democrats Cheshire East leader Rod Fletcher said the party did not field a candidate when there was an election in the ward in October last year, because it would cost the taxpayers money.

The statement made by Pride in Alsager (check the Facebook page) seems to have made a bit of a splash – I wonder if it made the difference in a close election?
Lib Dem party President and peer, Lord Pack, also picked up on Pride in Alsager’s statement on his blog and Bluesky account.
