June Buckley of the Liberal Democrats is standing in tomorrow’s Alsager East Ward election as she hopes to become the latest addition to Alsager Town Council.
She has past experience as a councillor, serving for four years on Alsager Town Council and Cheshire East Council.
Buckley has promised to focus on the needs and wishes of the Alsager community and she has a particular concern for road safety issues and the condition of the town’s high street.
The Liberal Democrats candidate has been involved in a number of community projects which have focused on issues including the local high street, flooding and burial provision.
She said: “Even now, as a resident and not a town councillor, people approach me with their concerns about such issues as speeding on Audley Road and the new Lawton Green Estate being used as a cut-through by speeding vehicles. The deteriorating state of the roads and pavements in Alsager is constantly raised.”
“I will listen to residents’ concerns about road safety on the Lawton Green Estate [by the new Sainsbury’s]. There are concerns about the knock-on effect of short cuts across this and nearby estates.
“I will investigate options and propose measures to improve road safety issues on Audley Road, Talke Road and the Radway Estate.”
The Liberal Democrats’ longest serving Alsager and Cheshire East councillor Rod Fletcher has praised Buckley for her experience and care for the local area.
He said: “We are delighted that June Buckley is standing as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Alsager East Ward.
“She brings a wealth of experience and a genuine concern for the community and would be an excellent representative for the people of Alsager East.”
Buckley is standing against Andy Large of Reform and independent candidate Brian Lomas at the Alsager Town Council East Ward election. Residents in the electoral area can cast a single vote between 7am and 10pm tomorrow at Alsager Civic.
