A new councillor will be appointed in Alsager’s East Ward after Cllr Brian Drake was disqualified for failing to attend a council meeting for six months.
An election will be held if requested by ten people in the electoral area, within the next two weeks.
If ten electors do not make this request, a new member will be invited onto the council in a process known as co-option.
There is already an election taking place next Thursday in Alsager’s East Ward, which is being contested by three candidates.
The most recent East Ward election took place in October last year, when independent candidate Sue Helliwell was re-elected to Alsager Town Council.
