Cheshire East roadworks on College Road leave drivers stranded

Roadworks on College Road stopped cars from being able to access a section of the road, as well as Harpur Crescent, at around 12pm today.

Queues of cars began to form where the works were taking place, with one woman saying she was pregnant and had been stuck for 40 minutes, while on the way to a doctor’s appointment.

Another woman said she was unable to leave her car and walk home with her wheelchair bound son because access to the footpath was limited by the works.

Footpaths were also affected by the roadworks

The road was opened to some cars, when a driver ignored the signs and entered the closed section to get to his home and soon afterwards it was opened fully, but works are not yet finished.

Cheshire East said when the micro resurfacing works were announced that road access would be maintained for emergency vehicles and residents where possible, but there was no access.
