Alsager Town to face Winsford United side full of former Bullets players in season opener

Alsager Town FC kick off their season at 3pm today, in an away fixture against a Winsford United side managed by former Alsager Town co-managers Dean Jones and Dom Johnson.

The managerial duo stepped down at the end of last season, when the Bullets finished 12th in the NWCFL First Division South and reached the semi-final of the Macron Challenge Cup.

The Bullets will face a number of players who made the switch from Alsager to Winsford this summer, including star striker Jack Woolley, who scored 20 goals last season.

Meanwhile, the Bullets have a host of signings from Winsford in their squad, with many Blues’ players following new Alsager Town co-manager Lee Duckworth to Wood Park.

Duckworth left Winsford in March after managing them for nearly nine years. He also made over 700 appearances for the Blues in his playing days, even featuring alongside fellow Alsager co-manager Luke Goddard for a brief period.

The Bullets did the double over Winsford last season, thrashing them 5-0 at Wood Park, before defeating them 4-2 at the Barton Stadium.

Although both clubs now have different squads, the Bullets will be looking to secure three points over the Blues once again to get their season up and running.

Having played six pre-season friendlies, including a 0-0 draw with Nantwich Town on Monday night, Alsager will be ready to get their league campaign underway.
