Nine hundred and twenty six locals voted in favour of the proposed store.
The poll on Facebook group, What’s going on in Alsager, was filled in by 980 people. Only thirty-nine opposed the unit to be built on the former Twyford’s site on Lawton Road.
A further fifteen selected the “other” option.
The supermarket chain announced plans in January to open a new place of business with a 249-space car park and petrol station.
Most residents approve the proposed store, but there are mixed opinions.
Some think Sainsbury’s is too expensive compared to the likes of Aldi and Lidl.
One resident said they would continue to use the “cheaper” petrol station in Kidsgrove.

Doubts were raised about the longevity of the store.
A resident mentioned that the Hanley store closed down, while the Newcastle-under-Lyme store is “quiet and does not have much stock on the shelves.”
Concern was expressed about flooding under the Linley Lane Bridge which could cause an access problem. Flooding in this location has been common in recent weeks.
Not every point raised was a concern. The competition the new store will create was praised. There is hope prices at the nearby Asda store will decrease.
One resident revealed they moved house to the former Twyford’s site when they heard the supermarket was to be built.
They said Sainsbury’s has “a good range of non-food items,” including the Argos collection point.
There is currently no date for when the store is likely to open.
The existing Sainsbury’s Local on Crewe Road will continue to operate once the new store is complete.
